Inclusion
Children's Welfare & Wellbeing
How to achieve 'Exceptional' as a childminder
We also point to key guidance childminders must be adhering to.
The National Union of Childminders’ webinar What’s All the Fuss About 10% Wear & Tear? explores the major changes to how childminders can claim expenses under new tax rules.
The session explains the long-standing 10% wear and tear allowance, which allowed childminders to deduct a flat percentage of their income to reflect the real cost of running a childcare business from home . It then outlines how, under Making Tax Digital, this simple system is being phased out, requiring childminders to instead track and claim actual costs for repairs and replacements .
The webinar examines what this means in practice. Ultimately, it places the issue in the wider context of growing financial pressures on childminders and why this change matters for the future of the profession.
